Applied Behavior Analysis Resources for Teaching & Parenting Children on the Spectrum
Hey All! It has been quite a while since I posted on here. Alot has happened in the behavior world since my last post. I have begun teaching social stories with three of my ASD students and my recent Masters class is on Applied Behavior Analysis. I have been learning many principles and strategies of ABA and how to implement in the school setting as well as at home. One area that I know tends to be a struggle for teachers and parents is the amount of resources and information out there. They can be absolutely overwhelming! I am hoping that by providing some resources that I have researched personally as an educator and parent of a child with ASD, I can help eliminate some of those overwhelming feelings. Sooo without further adeu...Here they are RIGHT at your finger tips:
The first of these resources is Autism Speaks. "Autism Speaks is dedicated to promoting
solutions, across the spectrum and throughout the life span, for the needs of individuals with autism and their families. We do this through advocacy and support; increasing understanding and acceptance of people with autism; and advancing research into causes and better interventions for autism spectrum disorder and related conditions" (Autism Speaks, 2020). This website is a great place for parents and educators to find resources, organizations and tools and strategies that help in parenting and teaching individuals on the spectrum.
Abaresources.com is another resource that has gives alot of assistance and strategies for parents and educators. It was created by a parent of a child on spectrum who has gone through the ABA process."ABA Educational Resources is committed to be a leading edge website providing practical resource materials for families and professionals using educational strategies for children with autism. Our goal is to facilitate the delivery ABA resource materials at a free and/or affordable cost" (ABA Educational Resources, 2020).
Relias is a company that has resources and information on Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities and ABA. Parents can find videos, resources and information on ABA, how it works, why it is used and things parents can do at home to gain the full potential of the therapy.

Free ABA the BX Resource is a website that has many free resources on various difficulties and therapies that individuals on the spectrum display or need such as sensory behavior, discrimination training, behavioral skills training (BST) with ABA Therapists, Teaching Children with Autism, Verbal Operants, Defining Problem Behavior, Following Through with Instruction, Extinction, and Tackling Sleep Challenges(How To ABA the BX Resource, 2020).
Behaviorbabe sounds quite trendy and a tad "crunchy" however the site has some great information for those of you who are new to ABA and want to get to know the pioneers behind ABA as well as hear from many other parents and therapists who have tried and have had to try again many behavioral strategies and therapies. There is access to podcasts, literature, resource reviews, and much much more for teachers, therapists, parents and caregivers.
I love ABA is a great place to get a "FREE list of assorted resources, links to helpful websites, or downloadable handouts/visuals" (I Love ABA, 2020). Tips, strategies, and resources at your finger tips!
A How to Visual Schedules document has been made by handsinautism.org and has great picture cards and schedules that are pre-made for students who struggle with transitioning and getting through tasks. They have visual schedules that are mobile as well as stationary. They also have examples of other schedules with objects and personal photos.
ABA Parent training provides tips for quality applied behavior analysis parent training. "
The CARD® program includes comprehensive and cutting-edge curricula that can be tailored to the specific needs of individuals from birth through adulthood. These programs help individuals learn to communicate, develop friendships, and lead happy, healthy lives" (Card Center for Autism and Related Disorders, 2020). CARD provides information and resources to parents and educators of students on the spectrum. It explains beneficial therapies, strategies and also connects families to support and training.
A powerpoint on Parent Training for Individuals with Autism and Developmental Disabilities by Cara Stearns Entz and the Inizio Interventions Inc/Cigna team would prove to be helpful
in aiding educators in training parents on Behavior therapy and Autism. This presentation is useful in learning how to give parent trainings that will help parents understand their child's disability and the resources provided to them in the journey.
